The Alliance to Save Energy’s Education Team seeks a part time (15-20 hours/week) Local Project Leader (LPL) for the TVA Green Schools Program in Knoxville. Compensation will be $18-$22/hour, based on experience.

The TVA Green Schools Program is a comprehensive program for K-12 schools that uses energy-based lessons correlated to state standards to enhance project-based, real-world learning, encourage energy-conserving habits, and save school districts money on energy costs.

Through hands-on learning, students become active leaders and educators about energy efficiency in their schools, homes and communities.

The Local Project Leader would work closely with the TVA Green Schools project manager in working with schools to integrate energy efficiency into their classroom learning; carry out energy-savings projects at school; and take the energy-efficiency message home and into the community.

In this role the LPL would:
• Participate with Alliance staff to plan and coordinate TVA Green Schools Program activities
• Be directly responsible for coordinating activities at 5-7 schools
o Work with teams of teachers, administrators, custodians, and students to carry out their Green Schools plan
o Assist teams in locating energy saving opportunities at their schools
o Coordinate monthly school visits with teams to provide additional resources and/or troubleshoot challenges
• Assist in coordinating 3 meetings throughout the 2009-10 school year
o Winter: All-day professional development workshop in Feb/March.
o Spring: celebratory event to reward students, teachers, and schools for their work on the project in May/June
• Assist in coordinating 3 meetings throughout the 2010-2011 school year
o Fall: All-day professional development workshop in Oct.
o Winter: After-school meeting to convene all school teams in Jan/Feb
o Spring: Evening celebratory event to reward students, teachers, and schools for their work on the project in May/June
• Assist in and/or coordinate community events to promote energy efficiency
• Other activities as opportunities develop throughout the program.

The LPL should possess the following:
• EXCELLENT organizational skills
• Dependability
• Excellent communications skills
• Able to learn new skills and information quickly
• Strong track record of timely accomplishments and reporting
• Ability to work within a set program as part of a team
• Some knowledge of energy efficiency
• Some experience working with schools and teachers

This person should be based in Knoxville and be experienced working with local schools and communities.
